Course Description

This course gives students a fundamental understanding of Microsoft Word and the skills to create and edit documents for a variety of situations.

Course Outcomes

Identify the interface components Microsoft Word 2013, create a new Word 2013 document, enter text into a document, save a document, preview and print a document, and search Help.
Navigate through a document to find and select text, modify selected text, and find and replace text.
Apply character formatting to text, align paragraphs using tab stops, display text as list items, control paragraph layout, apply borders and shading to paragraphs, apply text styles, and manage formatting in documents.
Insert a table into a document, modify the structure of a table, format a table, and convert text to a table.
Sort a list, renumber a list, and customize a list.
Insert symbols and special characters, and add images to a document.
Apply page borders and colors, apply a watermark, add a header and footer to a document, and control page layout.
Check spelling and grammar and use other proofing tools.
Customize the Word 2013 interface and use additional options for saving.

Course Modules

Identify the key components of the Microsoft Word 2013 interface, learn how to create a document and deal with the help function.

Learn how to format text and paragraphs using character formatting, text alignment using tabs, display text as a list item, control paragraph layouts, apply borders and shading, apply styles and manage formatting.

Manage lists through sorting a list, renumbering and customizing list content and formats.

Learn how to control a pages appearance through page borders, colour, watermarks, footers and headers.

Customise the word 2013 interface and add saving options.

Apply all character formatting. This includes aligning tect by using tabs, displaying text as list items, controlling paragraph layouts, applying borders, shading and styles.

Learn how to deal with tables. Understand how to insert, modify, format and convert text into a table.

Using graphic objects involves inserting symbols and special characters as well as adding images to a document.

Proof your document with spelling and grammar check as well as other proofing tools.
